Walla Walla County Veteran Resources Clinic in new location

Walla Walla Union-Bulletin - 12/31/2023

Dec. 30—The Walla Walla County Department of Community Health announced recently that the Veteran Resources Clinic has moved to the First Congregational Church at 73 S. Palouse St.

The clinic, which offers housing assistance, employment support and other services to local veterans, will be open from noon to 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

Walla Walla County Veteran Service Officer Wendy Cheng said the switch was an outreach effort by several agencies, including the VA, the county's Veterans Assistance Program, Supportive Services for Veteran Families at Blue Mountain Action Council, Corps of Recovery & Discovery at Valley Residential Services, the Vet Center, and Consolidated Veteran Services at WorkSource.

"We moved the resources clinic from the VFW to First Congregational Church because the church offers lunch to the general public on Tuesdays," Cheng said. "The location also hosts several AA and NA meetings. We thought we could capture more veterans at the church, especially those who are new in town."

At the clinic, the county's Veterans Assistance Program can help indigent veterans who have an honorable discharge and have lived in the county for at least 60 days if they are at a certain income level. The county's veteran service officer can help veterans apply for all VA benefits, including disability, pension, survivor benefits and discharge upgrade.

Cheng said veterans can also get assistance with accessing physical and mental health care. Any services not offered by the Veteran Resources Clinic will be referred to other local agencies.

"We do not expect veterans to have all the documents to present to the agencies involved because each program has different requirements," Cheng said. "We do provide on-site screening and referral. We welcome all veterans even if they do not require any type of assistance."
